The initial inspiration came from the shadows that were cast onto grass. A few months later she came up with a technique which did not create the object she chose onto canvas in an image that was flat. The object becomes a representation of itself, and the canvas carries an interpretation by painting of the object, especially in the case of a living object or perishable such as fruit or people. Alexa's style of painting is ephemeral, and all left of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. Photography and painting techniques closely synchronized, which results in a flat, two-dimensional area that is trompe l'oeil. Certain elements of the picture such as the hair, or eyes, display the 3D dimension. Meade often incorporates models painted within the surrounding space. They are able to be part of the world that she created. It eliminates any distinction between painting, photography and installation.
